“I had the pleasure of mentoring both Amy and Tom as part of the BML (Book, Music & Lyrics) workshop for writers of musicals. They both did outstanding work during the year, and were positive and motivated, taking the opportunity of a safe space to expand and experiment as writers. Happily, they seem to collaborate very well, finding a tone that is contemporary but rooted in the disciplines of classical music and ‘Golden Age’ musicals.”

SIAMSA VARIETY NIGHT 31 AUGUST 2023:

We presented a 30-minute concert reading under the title Joanna of Castile at the Toulouse Lautrec jazz club in London. Produced by Joe O’Neill, and featuring performers Ciara McGovern, Pearse O’Donaghue, and Brian Raftery.

TOM JAMES McGRATH

Aileen is a 7-minute musical with book, music and lyrics by Tom James McGrath. It is an imagined narrative of the life of American serial killer Aileen Wuornos.  It has been played on RTE lyric FM (the Irish equivalent of BBC Radio 3).

AMY CLARE TASKER

Amy wrote (book & lyrics) and performed HOT (Helen of Troy) at The Cockpit in February 2020. The show imagines a meeting between 90’s teenage geek Amy and ancient Greek Helen of Troy, exploring themes of beauty, power, and myth. Produced by Pinecone Performance Lab with support from Arts Council England, The Cockpit, and artsdepot.
